Learning Object Questions
Note: Procedures covering the creation and maintenance of learning objects are covered in the EKP Online Help for Administrators
1. What is a ‘learning object’?
A learning object is anything that a student may learn from. EKP supports multiple learning object types. Each of these have different capabilities, and only some (those typically associated with courses of various types) participate in enrollment and record tracking. However, all can appear in a catalog and can be used to convey information to the user.
Learning objects supported by EKP include:
Audio cassette Library audio materials for reference and review.
Book Library book materials for reference and review.
CD Library CD materials for reference and review.
Classroom A classroom offering with multiple sessions and locations.
External Certification A launchable AICC-compliant test that may be associated with a specific certification as the requirement test.
External Course A course offered external to this on-line system, but for which administrator's want to track registration and course time, location and availability.
Just-in-time learning Quick to learn material available via a hyperlink on another system (or on the web).
Learning Program Equivalent to a curriculum, it is a collection of learning modules of different types.
Online Module A typical on-line learning module launchable over the internet/intranet.
Other media Undefined "other" materials.
Video Library video materials for reference and review.
Virtual Classroom An integrated link to scheduled virtual classroom session (typically from a HorizonLive VC server).
Virtual Classroom (Archived ) A recorded virtual classroom sessions that may be accessed for direct playback.
Workshop / Seminar A scheduled session (similar to a classroom event).
2. Can prerequisites be set for these learning objects? How are these prerequisites enforced?
Most learning objects can be marked as prerequisites for other learning objects and each learning object may have one or more prerequisites. When a prerequisite is set, users may not register for a learning object unless the user either completes all prerequisites or if the user is currently in process of completing the prerequisite learning object.
3. What other enrollment limitations can be set for learning objects?
Learning object enrollment can be restricted to only specific organizations, countries or individual EKP users. As well, a one or two level manager approval for all enrollments can be enforced where a user may request to enroll in a learning module but enrollment in the module is dependent on the approval of the manager(s)
3. Can you set time limits for courses?
Time limitations can be set for online modules requiring that a user complete the module in a specified time. In addition, a manager can create training plans for users he/she manages and specify a mandatory completion date.
4. Is EKP integrated with any virtual classrooms? Can users enroll in and launch virtual classes from within EKP?
EKP can be integrated with HorizonLive or any other AICC compliant virtual classroom software. Users may enroll in and launch virtual classrooms from within EKP. Even a virtual classroom that is not AICC compliant can be launched as long as a URL is provided for the web launch, although use may not be tracked.
5. Does EKP support batch uploads for user and course details?
Yes, EKP incorporates other facilities to facilitate the uploading of course materials and other files.
Note: Procedures covering the creation and maintenance of tests and questions are covered in the EKP Online Help for Administrators
