EKP works over the Internet as well as on intranets and extranets. Within this environment it can be scaled to any size. It is designed to be secure and robust.

EKP provides for Internet and intranet access to learning management functions including:

Catalog Questions:

Is there a limit as to the number of subsections a certain catalogue may have?

Course catalogs and courses are organized and sorted by different learning types, such as online learning, classroom training or CD-ROM, and by subject. There is a limit to learning types but no limit to the number of catalogs or subjects. Courses are shown in the left frame organized by catalog. Once selected, course descriptions appear in the right frame. Courses can be searched for by catalog, subject, learning type, language, date or by using keywords.

User Questions:

1. Can EKP categorize users according to departments/groups?  If so, at how many levels?

Learning Object Questions

Note: Procedures covering the creation and maintenance of learning objects are covered in the EKP Online Help for Administrators

1. What is a ‘learning object’?

A learning object is anything that a student may learn from.  EKP supports multiple learning object types.  Each of these have different capabilities, and only some (those typically associated with courses of various types) participate in enrollment and record tracking.  However, all can appear in a catalog and can be used to convey information to the user.

Learning objects supported by EKP include:

2. Can prerequisites be set for these learning objects?  How are these prerequisites enforced?

Most learning objects can be marked as prerequisites for other learning objects and each learning object may have one or more prerequisites.  When a prerequisite is set, users may not register for a learning object unless the user either completes all prerequisites or if the user is currently in process of completing the prerequisite learning object.

3. What other enrollment limitations can be set for learning objects?

Learning object enrollment can be restricted to only specific organizations, countries or individual EKP users.  As well, a one or two level manager approval for all enrollments can be enforced where a user may request to enroll in a learning module but enrollment in the module is dependent on the approval of the manager(s)

3. Can you set time limits for courses?

Time limitations can be set for online modules requiring that a user complete the module in a specified time. In addition, a manager can create training plans for users he/she manages and specify a mandatory completion date.

4. Is EKP integrated with any virtual classrooms?  Can users enroll in and launch virtual classes from within EKP?

EKP can be integrated with HorizonLive or any other AICC compliant virtual classroom software.  Users may enroll in and launch virtual classrooms from within EKP.  Even a virtual classroom that is not AICC compliant can be launched as long as a URL is provided for the web launch, although use may not be tracked.

5. Does EKP support batch uploads for user and course details?

Yes, EKP incorporates other facilities to facilitate the uploading of course materials and other files.

Questions and Tests

Note: Procedures covering the creation and maintenance of tests and questions are covered in the EKP Online Help for Administrators

1. Does EKP support a question database for management of test questions?

Yes.  The EKP Question Editor is used to create essay, true and false, fill-in-the-blank, multiple choice, single choice, rating, triple rating and matching question types.  When created, questions can be placed in different question pools to make management of questions easier.

2. What types of tests can be created?

EKP can create tests that result in a score or grade, surveys and evaluations.  Tests, surveys and evaluations are all created using the EKP Test Editor.

3.  How are tests structured?

Tests are structured into multiple sections which can contain a fixed selection of questions or random questions taken from question pools. This can vary between sections giving the user the ability to create a test which can assess specific areas of a participants ability or knowledge.

4. Can questions be generated randomly for tests?

Yes.  Test can be made up of any number of questions from any number of question pools and questions can be specifically selected and delivered in a defined order or questions can be randomly selected from the question pools .

5. Can time limits be specified for tests?

Yes.  Tests can be organized into one or more sections and time limits can be enforced for each section of the test.

6.  Can tests be automatically graded?

True and false, multiple choice, single choice, and matching question types can be automatically graded by EKP to reduce instructor/manager administration time, however essay and fill-in-the blank questions require human verification.  Rating and triple rating questions are generally used for surveys or evaluations and express user opinions therefore do not require any marking.

7. Are course recommendation available on a per question basis?

No, course recommendations are based upon test results but different recommendations can be given dependent on the participant’s exact score.
