EKP Online Help for Users
1. I am not sure how I obtain a certification. Any suggestions?
Certifications are handled in two ways within EKP:
They can be explicitly assigned by an administrator;
You can earn a certification by completing a Learning Program certification test.
For the second method, a Learning Program that has a certification associated with it will provide a link in its Knowledge Center for the certification test. If you pass the test, you will automatically be awarded the certification -- it should appear in your transcript records as well as the Certifications Awarded list.
Module and Enrollment Questions
1. How do I enroll in a class or Learning Program?
All module/programs are listed in the catalog, so you can go to the catalog, select a module, and click on the enroll function. Because of security restrictions, some modules may not be visible to you in the catalog, but most can be accessed directly in the catalog.
2. I did not enroll in a program, but it appears in my module list. Why?
Some modules may be automatically assigned to you. Both Learning Programs and Modules may be set for automatic or group assignment by a training center administrator.
3. Can I enroll in a module more than once?
If this is allowed by the administrator (each module has a individual enrollment limit, although for most this is set to unlimited by default). If you are already enrolled in a module, you can not take it again until the current session is either "removed" or "withdrawn".
4. I made a mistake enrolling in a module -- how do I make it go away?
In the Knowledge Center for each module there is an Enrollment Status change function. Here, you can withdraw from a module or program. Withdrawing will completely remove the module from your records.
5. There are several places to launch a course -- which one should I use?
It does not matter -- clicking on the module title in My News, the Search Catalog, Current Learning Modules or Knowledge Center all launch the module in the same way.
6. Is the system recording all of my course activity?
This depends on the module. For required courses that have been written to track your final scores to determine whether you have passed, yes. But, some courses may be setup so that no tracking is done, in which case none of your scores or activity is recorded by the system.
7. What type of module information is tracked?
Again, this depends upon the course. Most use a standard called AICC (Aviation Industry CBT Committee) or vendor-specific cookies to track student information that is important to the courseware author. This typically includes details such as the amount of time spent on the course, the # of times taken, key test scores, etc., but the exact information tracked varies from course to course.
In EKP, all module and Learning Program activity is reviewable from Learn.
8. I have already taken a class that is part of a new Learning Program that I now need to take. Do I have to take the class again?
When enrolling in a new program, EKP will give you credit for previous modules you may have already enrolled in that are part of the new program's module list. If this situation arises, EKP will tell you (at enrollment time) that you have been given credit in the new program for the class, and the class entry in your transcript records will also indicate that the class is "shared" among multiple programs.
There are a number of scenarios that can occur, but basically, EKP always examines your record when you enroll in a new program to determine if you have already met some requirements for this new program -- it is trying to avoid you having to unnecessarily duplicate work.
9. I notice that the status of my modules and programs sometimes changes. What is happening?
Each Learning Program/Module can have one of several status values. These values determine what you can do with the module. The key values are:
ENROLLED, meaning you just enrolled in the module/program;
ACCESSED, meaning you have started the module;
WAITLISTED, meaning the class is full and you are on the waiting list;
PENDING APPROVAL, meaning your enrollment request is awaiting approval by others;
COMPLETED, meaning the course no longer shows on your active module list;
If you click on an online module, its status will automatically change from ENROLLED to ACCESSED. Once a module has been accessed it can no longer be deleted from your records -- it can only be marked COMPLETED in your records. This does not mean that you have finished the course requirements, but simply that the module no longer lists as one of your active modules.
10. If I am wait listed, will my enrollment be automatically upgraded if space becomes available?
Yes. If someone cancels from the class, or if an administrator explicitly changes your status, the enrollment process will proceed without any further action on your part. You should receive some kind of confirmation email message if this occurs.
11. I noticed that in some cases I can withdraw from enrolled courses, other times I can remove or finish the course. Why is there a difference between these two enrollment status change options?
For modules that you have already begun work on, you will find that the status has been set to "accessed". Generally speaking, you can only "remove" a module that is in progress, and you can only "withdraw" from a module that has not yet been used. Therefore, a status of "enrolled" will allow withdrawals, and "accessed" will allow "removals".
For a Learning Program it is slightly more complicated as the status of the program is dependent upon all of the modules. To allow a "removal" from a Learning Program, all modules must have a status of "accessed". If any module has a status of "enrolled", "waitlisted", or "pending approval", only a withdrawal is allowed. If you have successfully completed a module it will remain in your Training History after the withdrawal.
1. Every time I enroll in a class I get added to a new email contact list. How can I stop this?
EKP maintains a contact list for each Learning Program/module to enable people to more easily share learning experiences. To prevent yourself from being automatically added to these lists, go to your User Preferences screen and turn off the option entitled "Automatic Mail Lists". Also, you can explicitly remove yourself from a specific contact list by going to the Knowledge Center for the module and clicking on the "Delete me from this contact list" link.
2. Once I click on a tutor or fellow student to send an email, it will not let me change the To: part of the address. How can I do that?
The email communications are restricted to the named recipient only when you click on an individual address, such as those individuals listed in the Knowledge Center "Contact the Instructor" and "Contact My Learning Group" boxes.
3. The User Preferences list several options, such as Language and Skins, but I do not have any other choices. Why?
EKP has the ability to allow each user to have multiple skins and to choose from a multiple languages, but your set up may restrict users to the options currently listed. More options can be added in the future.
4. How are users authenticated?
EKP authenticates users from the internal corporate directory service and so does not allow password changes from within the application. New passwords changed in the directory service are automatically recognized by EKP.
5. How can I change my password?
For procedures on how to change your password, click here.
Screen Display and Language-Related Questions
1. Why do my screen displays look different from those depicted in the documentation and online help?
Due to changes in the application software, resulting from customization or upgrade work, the menu screens depicted may be different from the ones on your system. Even on a single system, multiple skins are configurable, so other users on the same system may not even have the same screen look.
2. I sometimes experience problems typing in non-Latin characters (e.g. Chinese, Japanese, Hangul) when running certain (newer) versions of my browser. What is the problem?
This problem is results from the implementation of Java the version of the browser is using, not EKP.
